A fantastic start for our primary trainees

It’s been a brilliant start to the year for our new primary trainees at the Sheffield Teacher Training Alliance.

They have already thrown themselves into their training, exploring the theory and strategies that will help them become outstanding teachers.

As they prepare for their first school placements, our trainees have been taking part in deliberate practice activities - focusing on how to create strong, engaging introductions to their new classes. Building positive relationships has also been a key theme, with trainees reflecting on the importance of rapport, what they would like their mentors to know about them, and what they hope to learn from their mentors in return.

Another highlight of the week was a session on teacher presence, which encouraged trainees to consider what makes a confident teacher. This led to a lively group challenge where trainees competed to add the most unique sticky notes within a time limit - sharing creative and thoughtful ideas about what confidence in the classroom looks like.

It’s clear our trainees are off to a fantastic start, combining theory with practice and developing the skills that will support them throughout their teaching journey. We look forward to seeing them grow further as they move into their placements.
